Out of My Comfort Zone

Something most of you don’t know about me - I was a co-owner of a Kickboxing and Karate gym in Newtown. I had been a lifelong fan of combat sports and martial arts, having practiced for nearly 15 years and taught the last 5, so when the opportunity to become an owner came about, I was in. I have wanted to own a gym for a very long time so this was such a perfect opportunity.
While I was extremely competent in teaching kickboxing and fitness and nutrition in general, I wanted to take my knowledge to a whole new level, so I decided to go through a trainer certification program through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Through my training I learned so much more than I had ever learned about health, fitness and the human body in general. I started incorporating it in my classes. Meanwhile I was doing my other duties at the gym handling a ton of the business side and we started thriving. Long story short I was forced out of my partnership after doing so much to help it grow. I was sad and lost, I put all I had into there and it was taken away. I thought my dream was over.
When I got my certifications I had no intention of being a personal trainer - I just wanted to give our members a better and safer workout and be a great resource to any health and fitness related question they may have had - plus the knowledge would also help me in my personal jounrey.
A few months later a friend who knew I had my certifications and had a good home gym setup reached out about training with me. I figured why not - I missed teaching people and I might as well put this knowledge to use. I fell in love with teaching/coaching all over again. Not too long after that a few more people reached out so I started offering either personal training sessions, small group boot camp sessions (up to 3 people at once), boxing/kickboxing coaching and sessions, etc. Training my handful of clients made me realize not only do I love helping people, but I belong here, so I decided it was time to step out of my comfort zone.
For those that have known me a long time know I have always been somewhat athletic and working out for a huge portion of my life. I have always loved it, but at the same time I have always struggled with my weight. I lose weight, I gain weight, I know exactly what to do, I never give up but I struggle. Because I don’t have the natural look of a lot of fitness professionals I always downplayed my skills and knowledge, I was always scared to teach or coach or train people because I didn’t always “look the part.” I always thought, who would listen to me If I don’t look like most fitness instructors? But since teaching/coaching I have gotten past that. What I look like has nothing to do with what I know or what my abilities are. In fact, I feel I am so much more relatable because this doesn’t come easy to me - I have to struggle every day like a lot of people out there and that’s OK, the struggle makes me work harder and ever since taking on some PT clients, my motivation to do better and be better is through the roof.
So it’s finally time to take a bit of a leap of faith and put myself out there officially and introduce you all to my new personal and small group training business, MF Fitness. All training is done in my home gym (or possibly your location/park, etc) and I can accommodate up to 3 people at one time. Personal sessions can be anything from circuits to learning kickboxing to strict strength and cardio training where personal training involves assessments and a program that progresses with you to help you reach specific goals!
The benefits of training with me - no set time - I schedule week by week with flexible times to accommodate your schedule. Workout alone or with up to 2 of your of friends in a private setting,. Workouts are extremely fun and are different every single day (every week for PT depending on goals) and, you get to spend an hour with me, I’m fun, I promise!
Maybe one day again I will own a gym, but for now I am so excited and happy I get to work with amazing people who want to learn more and better themselves.
I’m so happy to finally get over my fear and share this new endeavor with you all! If you or someone you know is interested or you have any questions please let me know!
